ARTSUP! STUDIOS
ArtsUP! Studios features onscreen productions created through our various programs, including Film by the Blind (FBTB) and our monthly webseries "What's Up, LA!"
Film by the Blind (FBTB) follows the innovative singularity of Theater by the Blind. It is the country’s first and only educational film program composed entirely of blind and visually impaired acting students. Created for those who want to experience the world of film and television, FBTB is also designed to allow participants to expand their horizons, stretch their comfort zone or just try something new. Participants learn the fundamentals of on-camera acting including techniques in relaxation, concentration, sense memory, emotional recall and improvisation. In a supportive environment, students perform in front of the camera and practice the technical, physical and emotional strategies needed for film acting. Classes also include all aspects of work within the world of film and television. Students will not only participate as actors in their projects, but they will also be producers, directors, writers, and designers. This course provides opportunities for students to take on leadership roles in the creation and full execution of projects. Because the program is in the heart of Hollywood, industry professionals, including working screenwriters, directors, producers and designers, are invited into the classroom to share their real-world experiences, creating a meaningful dialogue between the students and guest speakers. The syllabus and curriculum were developed by CRE Outreach staff member, Lindsay Nyman, a graduate of U.C.L.A.’s School of Theatre, Film and Television, who began her work with Theatre by the Blind over 5 years ago and is a member of Actor’s Equity and SAG. Serving as Theater by the Blind’s assistant director, Lindsay learned strategies, insights and techniques for working with blind and visually impaired actors from CRE Outreach Founder and Artistic Director, Greg Shane. |
