outreach through the arts
Outreach Through The Arts (OTTA) provides school programming in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and individual instrument lessons and music instruction scholarships for over 350 opportunity youth.
Started by Lana Negrete (Santa Monica Music Center), OTTA became an official program of ArtsUP! LA in the fall of 2016, as both of our organizations share a mission to bring the transformative power of the arts to underserved communities in Los Angeles. OTTA offers private and group instruction for all levels in piano, voice, guitar, wind instruments, string instruments, as well as band ensemble workshops. Providing instruction taught by professional music educators, this program allows students to discover hidden talents and fine tune their playing abilities in a creative, stimulating and supportive environment. OTTA is a vendor for the Bergmann Project, an endowment received by Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, to provide performing arts programs for opportunity youth. Students grade 4 through 12 enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program are eligible for scholarships to take weekly semi-private music lessons in strings, voice and winds from OTTA and other district approved music teachers. |

Program LeadLana has her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and has spent the last 10 years in Sales and Marketing. She played various instruments in her youth and has always had a passion for dance. Becoming a mother inspired her to have a place where children and their parents could make music, dance and create art together. She developed Pitter Patter, a parent and me program that currently runs in Santa Monica, Culver City and in local pre-schools. Opening her doors to those that couldn’t afford to pay led to the birth of Outreach through the Arts (OTTA), which provides individual instrument lessons and music instruction scholarships for over 350 under-served youth.
